check_oracle_health unter Windows

Seit einigen Versionen ist check_oracle_health auch unter Windows lauffähig, was anscheinend nur wenig bekannt ist. In vielen Firmen ist auf den Arbeitsplatz-PCs ein Oracle-Client installiert, mit dem Applikationen auf die Unternehmensdatenbanken zugreifen. Es ist daher nur logisch, wenn beim Monitoring die Verfügbarkeit einer Datenbank aus der Sicht so eines PCs geprüft wird. Natürlich ist es auch möglich, check_oracle_health auf dem meist Linux-basierten Nagios-Server auszuführen, aber die Überwachung findet näher an der Realität statt, wenn man einen typischen Arbeitsplatzrechner nachbildet. Es sind ja durchaus Fehlersituationen denkbar, deren Ursache in der Windows-Client-Software zu suchen ist. check_oracle_health kann auf zwei Arten ausgeführt werden: Analog zu Unix als Perl-Plugin. …

You can use Groovy’s MarkupBuilder to create XML message payloads. Your Groovy code goes right into the test case or comes from external file resource. Jolokia goes Javascript

Starting with release 0.82, Jolokia contains now a brand new Javascript client library. This blog post highlights the main features and gives some usage examples. It supports the full Jolokia protocol stack, including bulk requests and HTTP POST and GET requests. Both, synchronous and asynchronous operation modes are available and support for JSONP in order to come around the same-origin-policy is build in, too. jolokia.js uses jQuery as underlying framework and provides two API layers: A basic one with full control over the requests and a simplified API for ease of use, but slightly less powerful. Verkürzen der Ausgabe von check_oracle_health und Konsorten

Überwacht man mit check_oracle_health den Füllgrad von Tablespaces einer Oracle-Datenbank, so werden in der Ausgabe des Plugins grundsätzlich alle Tablespaces aufgeführt. Dabei spielt es keine Rolle, ob ein Tablespace genügend freien Speicherplatz hat oder bereits zu voll ist. Dies hatte in der Vergangenheit zur Folge, daß die Ausgabe bei großen Datenbanken mit vielen Tablespaces sehr, sehr lang war und somit in der Web-Oberfläche von Nagios etwas unübersichtlich erschien. Mit den neuesten Releases von check_oracle_health, check_db2_health, check_mysql_health und check_mssql_health ist es nun möglich, nur noch diejenigen Tablespaces/Datenbanken anzeigen zu lassen, die voller sind als es die Schwellwerte erlauben. Citrus includes a lot of convenient features which are only waiting for you to discover and use them. The other day I needed to validate a SoapAttachment. As you probably already know, a SoapAttachment is referenced by a href property in an Include tag like this: <Include href="…" xmlns=“http://www.w3.org/2004/08/xop/include"/>. Validation is quite easy when you’re still mock testing your application because you have full control over what your mock response will look like. OMD 0.44 is out in the wild

OMD, the new star on the open monitoring scene, has been released in version 0.44 two weeks ago with a lot of enhancements and new addons. For those, who don’t know yet the Open Monitoring Distribution, it is a Linux based distribution containing Nagios and important plugins, addons and GUIs in their latests versions all together in a single package. OMD is available for the major Linux brands (SLES, Debian, Ubuntu, RedHat/CentOS). Installing and starting OMD is a piece of cake, involving essentially only three steps. Really. It has fine support for upgrades and multiple installations and much more. More information on OMD can be found on its website. OMD is a community effort, where ConSol guys are some part of. Jolokia

Let’s welcome the new kid on the labs.consol block: Jolokia. Jolokia is a fresh way for accessing JMX MBeans remotely. For those who know jmx4perl, Jolokia is currently not much more than jmx4perl’s Java agent in disguise. Future versions of jmx4perl will rely on the Jolokia agent. The ratio behind this split is to attract more Java developers in order to extend the agent or pick it up for inclusion in their products. Therefore Jolokia is released under the Apache License. This move makes sense anyway, since the agent is by no way tied to Perl alone, but open for any sort of client bindings. In fact, a JavaScript binding is already in the pipeline, Stephan is working on it. Also, the intersection of Java and Perl lovers is neglible anyway ;-). An overview of Jolokia can be found on our …
