Citrus still improving

We fixed some issues in our 1.1-SNAPSHOT version of Citrus and also improved some features. For a detailed change history follow our changes report. The latest version now supports multi-threaded performance tests. We recently tested a SOAP WebService regarding performance using Citrus. MS SQL Server Backups überwachen mit check_mssql_health

Die check_[datenbank]_health-Plugins lassen sich leicht in ihrem Funktionsumfang erweitern, indem sie zur Laufzeit Zusatzmodule einlesen. Dieses Feature wurde eingebaut, damit für vorhandenen, u.U. firmenspezifischen Code kein eigenes Plugin geschrieben werden muss. Man steckt ihn einfach in Dateien, die einer bestimmten Namenskonvention folgen. Als Beispiel soll hier gezeigt werden, wie man das Alter des letzten Backups einer Datenbank überwacht. Citrus 1.1-SNAPSHOT released

Citrus is now also available as snapshot release in version 1.1. We already have incorporated some really great new features and fixed some issues. See below a list of new features for 1.1-SNAPSHOT. check_jmx4perl -- Einfache Servicedefinitionen

Im Rahmen des Münchner Nagios-Stammtisches hielt Roland Huß gestern einen Vortrag über sein Framework Jmx4Perl. Mittlerweile haben sich mehrere Leute erkundigt, wie die Service- und Commanddefinitionen für das dazugehörige Plugin check_jmx4perl aussehen könnten. Deshalb soll hier erläutert werden, wie man ein paar grundlegende Messwerte aus einem Applicationserver ausliest und mit Nagios überwacht. Zunächst muss natürlich erstmal jmx4perl installiert werden. Nachdem die aktuelle Version heruntergeladen und entpackt wurde, werden die Perl Module und das Nagios Plugin check_jmx4perl mit perl Build.PL ./Build install systemweit installiert. Neues Datenbank-Plugin check_db2_health

Es gibt ein neues Mitglied in der check_<datenbank>_health-Familie. Nach Oracle, MS SQL und MySQL habe ich mir DB2 vorgenommen und ein Plugin geschrieben, das leicht erweiterbar ist und grundlegende Anforderungen out of the box abdeckt. Das Plugin setzt die Installation von DBD::DB2 voraus, das man bei IBM herunterladen kann: http://www.ibm.com/software/data/db2/perl Zur Speicherung von Zwischenergebnissen wird das Verzeichnis /var/tmp/check_db2_health angelegt. Es ist darauf zu achten, dass der Nagios-Benutzer die dazu nötigen Privilegien besitzt.

Add the repos to your project POM. Ein Update von ESXi 3.5 auf 4.0 geht ganz einfach, auch wenn man keinen vCenter Update Manager hat. Für die meisten Nutzer der kostenlosen Variante von ESX dürfte das der Fall sein. Trotzdem gibt es auch für sie die Möglichkeit eines bequemen, automatisierten Updates. Zuerst braucht man die Datei VMware ESXi 4.0 (upgrade ZIP), die man mit 7-Zip (wichtig!) öffnet. Darin befinden sich weitere Archive, durch die man sich folgendermassen klickt: VMware-viclient.vib data.tar.gz data.tar . 4.0.0 <li>client</li></ul> Schliesslich findet man die Datei VMware-vclient.exe, die man extrahieren muss. Sie enthält den vSphere Client 4.0. Project root path in a Maven multi module project

In a multi module Maven project, it seems non trival to reference the project root location from the sub modules deeper down in the module hierarchy. The following approach describes how to configure a plugin referencing a root POM relative file. Here’s the usual multi module file layout: Main POM (contains project global conf file) | +- Sub module 1 POM | +- Sub module 2 POM (needs project global configuration file) | +.. Typically, you need to reference a file resource for some plugin configuration issue and want it applied for all project modules. The pluginManagement section in your main POM allows you to configure plugin defaults for the project scope, which applies to all modules - a best practise for Maven projects. check_fs_ping - A Nagios plugin for NFS filesystems that does not hang

When an NFS file server crashes or a network problem interrupts the connection between the NFS server and client, processes that access files on the mounted filesystem can hang. This also affects Nagios plugins. After a timeout, Nagios tries to terminate the plugin process, but it can remain in the process list until the NFS server responds again. With a check_interval of five minutes, many hanging processes can accumulate. A Nagios plugin can detect an unresponsive NFS filesystem and still exit cleanly by running the potentially blocking file access in a separate thread. This thread does not block the calling process and is discarded when the plugin exits. This approach can also monitor response times for other filesystems, such as hierarchical storage systems that need to load external …
