Getting Started
Welcome to OMD
OMD-Labs is a single RPM or DEB package to create a monitoring setup easily. It ships all components required. This guide uses Centos 7, but it works the same way on all other supported systems.
Installation
Install the epel
repository if not already present.
#> rpm -Uvh https://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-7.noarch.rpm
Install the consol labs
repository if not already present.
#> rpm -Uvh "https://labs.consol.de/repo/stable/rhel7/i386/labs-consol-stable.rhel7.noarch.rpm"
Then continue to install the omd rpm.
#> yum install omd
You can install multiple OMD versions at the same time. You can search for other versions with:yum search omd-
Create a new Site
OMD uses a site concept which allows you to create multiple sites even with different OMD version on the same machine.
Create a first site by
#> omd create demosite
This creates a new site named demosite
which includes a separate user and
group. Remember or note the initial password. It will be required to access the
webpage.
Usually you work as site user. Root permissions are only required for creating or removing sites.
Change into the site user
#> su - demosite
First steps
All commands are executed as site user.
Show status of all components:
OMD[demosite@host]:~$ omd status
Start all components:
OMD[demosite@host]:~$ omd start

OMD uses a normal linux filesystem layout for etc, lib, var… except everything is relative to the sites home folder. Read more in the filesystem layout documentation.
OMD offers a few commands to create and operate your sites. See an overview in the omd command reference.
